Rama Caritey, Raif Barbaros & Troy Broussard launched Fooddel in April 2011 in partnership with the City of Toronto & the St. Lawrence Market Tenants' Association. Based on the extensive research of the competitive landscape, at the time we were one of a handful online multi-store specialty food livery services in the world -- and the only such service providing online shopping and delivery for a large historic Food Market like the St Lawrence Market.
The vision for Fooddel was simple -- to bring the best food from the four corners of Toronto to Torontonian's doorsteps. To get started, we picked the ultimate specialty food destination loved by Toronto's elite chefs and amateur foodies alike: the beloved St. Lawrence Market. The World's #1 Food Market, according to National Geographic.
By 2013 Fooddel's offering included a tantalizing selection of 3,000 local and international specialty products -- many of which were available only at the St Lawrence Market -- along with a collection of standby staples, all curated by 28 merchants from the St Lawrence Market. The shopping experience was convenient, with the ability to shop by merchant, category, or keyword, with only one simple single checkout. Orders would then be delivered by refrigerated delivery to customers' homes and offices.
